Gala and Board of Directors Installation

Join us for an evening celebrating outstanding design. Come cheer on your fellow members and colleagues as the chapter recognizes them for their work! You will also bid farewell to the 2017 Board of Directors and welcome the 2018 team.

This year the party will take place at True Food Kitchen, a health-driven, seasonal restaurant merging nutrient-rich ingredients with a flavor-forward menu that rotates regularly to let guests experience great-tasting ingredients at the peak of their freshness.

Installing Officer

Paul Welch, Honorary AIA
Paul W. Welch, Jr., Hon. AIA, joined the AIA California Council in February 1981 when the Council moved its offices to Sacramento from San Francisco. As Executive Vice President, he serves as an ex-officio member of the AIACC Executive Committee and the Board of Directors, and as a member of the AIACC Foundation Board of Directors.

Mr. Welch was Executive Officer for the California State Board of Architectural Examiners from 1978 to 1981, and served earlier as Director of Consumer Affairs for the counties of Stanislaus and Monterey. A native of Modesto, California, he graduated from Humboldt State University with a degree in Natural Resource Management, and did post-graduate work in Public Administration at Stanislaus
State college.

Mr. Welch has been active on many levels of the AIA. He has facilitated numerous planning sessions for local AIA components in California and for the Arizona Society/AIA. He served on the AIA Licensing Law Task Force, the AIA Membership Futures Committee, and is a past member of the AIA Governmental Affairs Committee. Mr. Welch has served on numerous AIA Component Assistance Teams, including visits to the Michigan Society, the Oklahoma Society, the Arizona Society, the Ohio Society/AIA, and AIA Nevada.

Mr. Welch is also a past president of the Council of Architectural Component Executives (CACE), an Upjohn Fellow for service on the National AIA Board of Directors, and he received his Honorary membership in the AIA in 1992.

Mr Welch is retiring after nearly four decades of serving the architectural profession as executive vice president of the American Institute of Architects, California Council.

In early 2018, the AIACC will bid farewell to its leader, but not without fond memories and respect for his many accomplishments on behalf of California architects and the architectural profession. Whether through his determination to protect and strengthen building codes and laws, support the path to licensure, or mentor those within the profession, he has been a stalwart advocate for those who inhabit the world of design.
